Great news my book-loving friends! My new book Humanish is now available for pre-order! It will be published on September 23 in the US and Canada, and September 25th in the UK.
For the US/Canada edition, you can pre-order it at:
If you order it from my local bookstore here in Canada (The Curious Cat Books & Tea), I might even be able to sign the book for you when it comes in. Here’s the link to order from the Curious Cat.
Here is the UK version:
In the UK, you can pre-order Humanish from:
I would be most grateful if you pre-ordered a copy of the book (or maybe 100 copies of the book) ahead of the launch date. It’s especially helpful if you pop by your local bookstore or library and ask them to pre-order it for you. I would be beyond grateful! This is one of the best ways to help out an author as all those pre-sales let booksellers and book-lovers know that a book is worth paying attention to. As the author Helen Cullen wrote for the The Irish Times:
When authors shyly, or not so shyly, encourage people to pre-order their book, they are hoping readers will order from a book shop, online, or from their library in advance of the publication date – regardless of the format. It can be career-changing for an author. Authors have a special place in their heart for people who pre-order their books. We appreciate it so much – thank you from all of us to all of you. You have the power!
As you might have noticed, the UK and US/Canada versions of the book cover are wildly different in almost every way. Even the subtitle is different. But there is no difference at all in the content of the book once you crack it open. Humanish is a fun, deep dive into the subject of anthropomorphism filled with wacky anecdotes and a mix of silliness and fascinating science. Both covers are an attempt to capture this combo of science and whimsy. I am not going to speculate as to the potential differences between the average UK vs. US/Canadian reader when it comes to their book-cover-loving psychology. But I have absolute faith in my publishers (Little, Brown in the US/Canada and Oneworld in the UK) to know what it is about a book cover that the two different markets respond to. Just out of curiosity, I’d love to know your thoughts on these two book covers.
And finally, here is an AI generated image of my rooster (Chonk) anthropomorphized into a human version of himself. Because this is a thing happening online at the moment.
Here is the original photo of Chonk:
