This is a brilliant start to what might become a full-blown theory of the creepy. You might contact Karen MacFarlane at the MSVU English department, who has also done some work on creepiness.
I dig into this topic at length in my new book on anthropomorphism. Did a quick search of Karen MacFarland and found a cool article about creepy little girls in Gothic texts. Cool!
It’s the whole package, but especially the mouth and the eyes. And why does there even need to be a mascot? If there needs to be, then why not a real animal?
your version is much better but the thing is still CREEPY
Like a few prominent politicians that clearly exist in the uncanny valley ... a strange mix of too-human and not-human-enough
Keep up the great writing,
Ha! Thanks Anne Louise!

Ha - whole package creepiness is no good! Yeah, first ever mascot - not sure it is necessary.
In my mind, your version is still creepy.
Is it the eyes? Some people are really creeped out by the eyes...
