The book cover for my new book Humanish includes a fantastic illustration of an anthropomorphic toaster from the illustrator Armando Veve. But it wasn’t the only illustration he submitted for possible inclusion on the cover! I present to you the phenomenal lineup of candidates Armando provided, any one of which I would have been super psyched to have as the cover. Ultimately, we went with the toaster because it emphasized that the book was about more than just anthropomorphizing animals; literally half of the book is about how we anthropomorphize inanimate objects, ideas, and concepts. The potato would have worked too, though. And the googly-eyed glasses guy. And that amazing axolotl? I mean, come on! That would have been SWEET! Honestly, it wasn’t an easy call. I think you’ll see what I mean after feasting your eyes on these PHENOMENAL illustrations from Armando:
And here’s the original toaster submission:
So, which was your favorite?
